Welcome to the novice's guide to the Internet

Are you new to computing? Haven't been around the Internet's proverbial block a few times yet? This is the place for you. This is a Wiki—A special kind of website that contains information that anyone can read or edit. The first Wiki was the Wikipedia, which is a free online Encyclopedia. The Wiki style of creating a site is good for disseminating information since anyone can contribute, analyze, and correct the content. This Wiki contains pages with information about what is considered "good behavior" on the Internet. Some people call this "netiquette," although this Wiki will try to do more than just tell you how to behave well. It will tell you how to be taken seriously by professional computer users and to help you from frustrating more experienced people on the internet.

Despite the name of the website, the tone here will strive to be cordial and instructive, rather than pejorative. If you have an idea of some area you'd like to improve, such as e-mail skills, how to effectively use search engines, use social networking sites, etc, simply enter some keywords about the topic in the search bar in the upper right corner of the page. If you have no particular direction, try the Start Page
